Jumbo-sized trouble

UPS scuttles their order for the A380 freighter, quite possibly dooming the variant, and certainly posing yet another unwelcome setback for a program already waist-deep in problems.

It’s beginning to look as if Boeing’s initially timid-seeming 787 Dreamliner may turn out to have been the better bet. (Too bad we all know the swanky lounges etc. depicted in the marketing materials will never stand up to reality.)

One response to “Jumbo-sized trouble”

It may doom the freighter, but it comes on the heels of an announcement that Airbus is basically shelving that variant until the passenger version of the superjumbo is done.

Over at Bloomberg ( http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a.iZbMrZYraw&refer=home ) an analyst suggests its the only rational decision for both companies. For ten planes, I don’t see Airbus even bothering with the cargo flavor. Instead, I they’ll do well to revisit it after the passenger A380 is flying and the kinks are worked out.
